LCL filter for regen drives and active in-feed converters

Called FN 6840, they come in a variety of specifications and are ready to be installed and connected in a single unit as all the necessary components are mounted in one pre-assembled package.

“With the correct match of an LCL filter to the AFE or AIC and the power grid, the filter can limit the ripple current generated by the drive or converter to a level less than <5% and helps to reduce voltage distortions while improving the power quality,” claimed the firm.

The filter works with 50 or 60Hz line and downstream switching between 3kHz and 10kHz, and is available with five current ratings from 25 to 380A at 480Vac (3 x 340-530Vac is the actual range).

Depending on AFE/AIC versions, the LCL filter can be selected with (see diagram) or without series RC passive dampers – the later, for example, for motor drives that have built-in active damping.

The firm has identified regenerative systems – that feed waste energy back into the grid – as target applications – such as lifts, hoists and cranes, as well as machine with frequent braking cycles and high inertia machines like centrifuges and flywheels.

All models are CE and RoHS compliant.
